Attorney General Josh Stein Announces Group Home Employee Sentenced For Assault

(RALEIGH) Attorney General Josh Stein today announced that Robert Lee Harrington pled guilty to misdemeanor assault on a handicapped person. Harrington, an employee of Trotter Bluff Group Home in Holly Springs, struck a resident of the Home.

“Patient abuse and neglect are serious allegations,” said Attorney General Josh Stein. “We will investigate and prosecute these cases as we work to protect all North Carolinians.”

Harrington received a 60-day suspended sentence in the Wake County jail and was placed on supervised probation. He was also ordered to pay a fine, court costs, a community service fee, and to perform 24 hours of community service and anger management courses. Mr. Harrington was also terminated from employment at the Home.

About the Medicaid Investigations Division (MID)

The Attorney General’s MID investigates fraud and abuse by healthcare companies and providers, as well as patient abuse and neglect in facilities that are funded by Medicaid.  Medicaid is a joint federal-state program that helps provide medical care for people with limited income. To date, the MID has recovered more than $500 million in restitution and penalties for North Carolina.
